2007 Mazda 5 - AC clutch - rotates ok, coil res 5ohm but won't actuate with 12vdc

Hi, The ac in our 2007 mazda 5 isn't working and I'm looking for ideas to trouble shoot?

- electrical signals seem ok - on off signal reaches clutch coil connector,

- there is about 70psi at the lp side port.

- the compressor shaft rotates ok

- with the coil connector disconnected I measure 5 ohm to ground (so not open circuit)

- but I tried applying 12vdc from the battery to the clutch coil connector and the clutch does not activate? What else can I do to trouble shoot this?

I get a solid resistance reading so ground is probably ok,

I could measure the current while applying 12v to the coil - just to make sure that looks ok,

but if the coil is ok what would prevent the clutch from engaging?

Any further advice trouble shooting this to figure out what the problem is?

(I was hoping I could get away with replacing the clutch coil or a clutch replacement kit then I wouldn't have to open the system but would like to prove problem before ordering parts)

Similar issue on '07 CX-7

I am having a similar issue on my CX-7. I recently recharged my system with an AC Pro kit and now the clutch coil does not appear to be engaging. There appears to be power going to the coil, so I'm thinking it may be a bad low pressure sensor.

If you apply +12v to the clutch/coil & it doesn't engage with the engine running, its a 99% chance its dead.
