WU-TWC replacement
Anyone done this on a Mazda3? (2006 - 1st gen).
I have the replacement (the complete exhaust manifold back to the TWC flange, so installation is bolt-on, no cutting or welding), but I can't see a way of accessing it without removing most of the bottom of the car (cross members, etc). I have the workshop manual, but it isn't clear on this job. Any clues accepted! |
Manifold comes out the top.

What!! So I just unbolt it, and I'll be able to finagle the whole thing through the top gap between the engine and the firewall? That's great news!
Normally I learn all this stuff off youtube videos, but it looks like nobody has made that one yet. Anyway - I'll give it a go. Thanks! |
I could be wrong actually. Workshop manual says it comes out the bottom, I may of confused the 3 & 6 for manifold removal. Sorry.

Well, you helped me with it! By saying that it came out of the top, I made it come out of the top :)
The trick is to disconnect the manifold from the exhaust at the gasket, then undo the two bolts on the passenger-side engine mount. The engine can then slide forward about 2-3 inches, which gives enough room to work the manifold out through the top. You *may* have to remove the manifold-engine mounting studs to make enough clearance (I already had them off by the time I thought about moving the engine - you might not have to go that far if you just slide the engine). Just putting it all back together now. Looking good so far, and I didn't need to mess with the crossmembers or the steering. |
Well done.
