Picked up car from dealer after repairs, they filled my tank. Discovered 2 days later that they did not replace gas cap. Could this have caused any damage?

 

i dont think it will...
but if it does, go back and yell at the dealer and ask to have ur car fixed

 

I thought the check engine light came on when the gas cap was not replaced properly?
Did your light come on?

 

it will usually just throw a CEL, but not always. I had one come on at least two days after the last time I'd taken the cap off.

 

It won't harm anything really. I drove around with a faulty gas cap for a month on my first car. No problems were had. Just the CEL light would come on randomly then go back off.

 

theres a little metal flap that closes shut when the nozzle at a gas station isnt in it (im sure we've all seen it...unless you live in a state where you don't pump your own gas = P )...i think you should be fine.

As long as the fuel door is closed, i do not believe so, but then again, is it ever reallyy a "good" idea to be driving w/o a gas cap!ha

It will likely throw a CEL, but should do anything more than possibly reduce performance or fuel mileage slightly. I doubt you would be able to tell the difference.

Make the dealer replace the cap and check/clear any codes and move on with life.

 

My 2004 Tundra had a CEL when my wife didn't completely tighten the gas cap. It was sensative.
