using a oven gauge to get temp reading..?
 

hello to all newbie here..
im going too be changing my coolant on my 2010 mazda 3 sedan 2.0L
I have no temperature gauge on the dash. after I do my drain and fill to
let me no what the temperature of the engine is at.?? so my idea is to use

a probe oven type thermometer on the engine somewhere on the engine taking before and after temp readings so I can compare temperature readings. and no I don't have a infrared gun to use. I no it wont be accurate like a real gauge but it will have too do. any sugestions as for best placement are welcome...? LOL :D

I cook, oven thermometers are to vague. Auto parts stores sell fairly inexpensive thermometers for the radiator.

Fill the radiator and set the dash to vents and hot. After running the engine for 5 mins, hold a 1200-1500 rpm on the engine. This will help push any air pockets out of the heater lines. Return to idle. If duct temp remains hot, top off degas bottle or expansion tank, depending on which model you have, and you should be good to go. Always wise to check the level the next day incase a trapped air pocket made it's way out.
