TWM SS

I installed my TWM short shifter today and dam it feels nice. You don't need any efort to move it in 1st. I get a perfect shift every time. No grinding no nothing. I was wondering if i should get a heavier knob though. I am using the stock knob right now. I added a pic and i never knew how clean i kee my car till now.

The beige interior looks odd, considering all of Mazda's wheels are jet black.

RE: TWM SS

I'd bet it stays a lot cooler in hot weather though.... :D:D:D
And until the early '80's when they went for that monochrome interior look, most European, Swedish and Japanese cars came w/black dashboards, steering wheels and seat belts no matter what color the rest of interior was. I for one, hated that all-the-same color look @ first. It took me quite a while to accept it.
My Honda, everywhere you lookedwas blue, except the headliner. My Nissan, everywhere you lookedwas blood red, in that case, even the headliner!! I hated that headliner and never did get used to it.

i like my interior, its differnt, like you said there mostly black interior. I have a combination of luxury and sporty look or at least i think so. No it doesn't stay cool in the summer. Its oppositte, i actually noticed that after having the car for 2 days. Its actually hotter in my mazda than it is in my altima, and the altima interior is aaaallll black.

How long did it take you to install?

I had a short shifter on my old car and just prefer the throws compared to a stock shifter, but I didn't install that one, and just wanted to avoid any warrenty issues. /shrug

No it doesn't stay cool in the summer. Its opposite, i actually noticed that after having the car for 2 days. Its actually hotter in my mazda than it is in my altima, and the altima interior is aaaallll black.

That's probably morea function of the car's insulation properties than color of the fabric. Compare your 3 to one w/a black interior, not apples and oranges.
It's a known scientific fact that light colors reflect, dark colors absorb.

The shifter only takes about 1/2 hr to install w/a friend helping, and you only need the second pair of hands for about a minute to help line up ball assembly and springto get it back in the base. Before and after that, it's a one-man operation.

RE: TWM SS

i did it my self though the install wasn't hard you only need a second pair of hands when you have to take the ball out...you can put tooth picks or the little small screw drivers to keep the clips from snapping back in.

Just purchased my TWM SS and can't wait for it to arrive!

If you buy the weighted shift knob lemme know how it works out, I went without one for now, maybe after I get paid on June 1.

a second pair of hands are not needed for installation. it can be a one man/woman job...

wsoape281 05-10-2008 03:46 PM

RE: TWM SS

you mainly just need a small pair of pliars to get into the install.

Installed mine today, love it! Shifts are quick and love the feel of it.

Relatively easy install, took about 45 minutes for me.

I'd take a picture, but my cars dirty right now lol

RE: TWM SS

did u replace the OEM bushings with the TWM ones as well?? i just ordered my bushings (no SS..) and how was the install just for those suckers?

virgin1 05-15-2008 07:00 PM

RE: TWM SS

I can tell you from experience that that is the easy part. It will take all of about 15mins including the time to remove and reinstall the console, or at least loosen it to get it out of the way.

Binarypotato 05-15-2008 07:26 PM

RE: TWM SS

Yeah bushings were included with the SS and they are simple.

2.0Mazda08 05-16-2008 08:29 PM

RE: TWM SS

IMO just changing the bushing won't make much of a difference you will notice the shifts being a little bit crisp thats all. You should deff consider getting a SS. Install is easy and it comes with pretty detailed instructions.

SPeeDy3 05-16-2008 09:28 PM

RE: TWM SS

i did origianlly want the ss, but times r tough so i might as well order the 2 the bushings and the shifter separately, even tho itll run me a little extra. still, im just lookin to have the "crisper" feeling.. if u tell me the shifter makes a difference as well then ill definitely be buying it.

I just installed my TWM SS this past Tuesday and love it as well, this is a really neat mod. They did a really great job w/ the instructions but I did need the extra set of hands. I too am intersted in whether or not a knob makes any difference, I opted out for now given they are pretty proud of them.

Vibrant exhaust goes on Sunday morning so I should have another update soon...Come on Sunday!

RE: TWM SS

well its too bad you and I spent almost 200 ....another company just came out with one and are having a group buy on another forum for 108 and its the same thing as the TWM except that its just slightly taller so people who think its too short (i do) it sort of eliminates that complain. Basically its a perfect SS but with out TWM's name on it.

RE: TWM SS

Eh, I like it where it sits, for me, my hand falls perfectly to that spot.

Also note that I keep the seat as low as possible as well, and I sit predominantly to the right.

2.0Mazda08 - I thought when it arrived that $200 was a lot for what came in the box. Figures after I get in there is a cheaper alternative...Murphy

virgin1 - 10-4 on that. There ought to some sort of compensation pointed in your direction. Your write-up on the system is what sold me. (It better not suck) ;)

RE: TWM SS

It won't... I guarantee. :D:D:D
A guy I'd never met before stopped by last Sat evening. He had seen my car in the driveway before and stopped to ask me about it. He was in an '07 Sedan. Among other things, he asked about the exhaust siting that he was considering the MS. After hearing mine, he's liable to be in the Vibrant before too long too. He said he's heard the MS and that the Vib sounded much, much better, and w/o being obnoxious. My own feelings exactly.
We had a very cool little visit, a mini-meet if you will, showing each other our cars.
You WON'T be sorry, or I'll come over there and... and... and... have a drink with you. :D:D:D

Oh, BTW:Let us all know if Vib has solved the missing bolts/gasket problem with your kit. I had reused the old Cat gasket in mine and not had any problems in the 2yrs it's been on there. But had I not had a large selection of hardware lying around anyway I woulda' been in troublewith the bolts.
