Squeaky brakes

I have a 2005 Mazda 3 and it seems as the weather has gotten colder and rainier here my brakes are doing an awful lot of squeaking and squealing when I first start the car and slowly back it out of my garage.

Sometimes the noise is extremely loud and almost unbearable. After I drive and brake a few times it goes away. Is there anything I can do to stop this sound?

I've been backing into parking spots at places I know I'll be for a long time because my brakes are so loud backing up. I'd prefer if there was some kind of maintenance I could do to get rid of this problem.

My '08 does the same thing.
I don't believe there is anything you can do for it.

I believe it is due to the fact that the wheels are so open, they leave alot of room for moisture, rain, snow, etc., to get into them and they will almost rust over night.

It's kinda like lot rot, only sooner.

I have an 08, and mine do it sometimes when it rains hard or a lot. I was told that it is because the break pads get wet, which causes the sound when you use them.

You could put trash bags over your tires everynight, but I'd rather just listen to noise the first time i brake.

tj, Are you noticing a lot of rust on the rotors when this happens? Could it be a partially frozen parking brake... one that may need some lubrication?
Mine creaks and groans a bit for a very short time if its been sitting for a few days in wet weather, especially if the parking brake was on, but nothing like what you guys are describing.

Mine is nothing like what TJ is describing lol, but it does it just a little bit after the weather has been crappy for a while. Goes away very fast.

After it rains, or snows, and a decent amount of moisture gets onto the rotors, they start to rust a very little bit.

Without the parking brake on.

So the first brake or two in the morning is a little rough on the ears, but it goes right away and does not happen again untill the next day.

Mine also does it when it gets really damp the night before.
