Spark Plugs
 

has anyone changed there spark plugs on there 3i w/2.0L engine. my car is just about at 60k miles, so I want to get some new plugs, maybe new wires, switch to synthetic oils, just to help maintain a long life of my car. let me know if anyone has changed the plugs, and if so, it is something relatively easy to do, or do i need a mechanic shop to do it. thanx.

I haven't changed mine yet cause i believe mazda says they are good for like 75k

but all you have to do is unscrew the bolt hear the spark plug...it holds the came down.

pull the spark plug out......regap the new one (even though they may be gapped from the manufacturer, still double check) , and put the new one it.

its pretty straight forward, you will just need a socket set with an extension and a spark plug socket.

They're rated for 100k

wow i am suprised they gave you an honest answer.

my service shop wanted to charge me to change mine at 45k...lol.

But I plan on changing mine soon.....car is running real rich and want to rule that out as a problem.

And why change to synths now. You could've done that miles and miles ago? (I did mine @ 10K.)

he isn't changing wires...just the spark plugs...no need to change wires..or the coil pack unless they are damaged.

re: the syn oil...make sure its for higher mileage cars...not good to start using syn on a higher mileage car if you didn't while it was low on miles.

the syn oil is made to be slick andwill loosen up oil deposits...so it may take off convential oil that has deposited itself over leaks.

just an FYI...alot of motor oil manfacturers well have that info on their websites.

Though he'd be hard pressed to find them on a 3, I beg to differ with you. Read his post again.

ohh sorry i missed that.

ptuning.com has a set that is supposed to fit for the 3, and the manufacturer has it on their website too....but it appears that the plug wires for the 3 are really long, and on my car they are all taped up into part of the wiring....soI leave that **** along until they fail..lol.

Just read through my manual and it says 75k. If you were to put cheap plugs in then they'd need to be changed more frequently.

You dont need to worry really...Id let the wires and plugs go to at least 75K, if the car still runs fine, keep them in, why not? Save some chedder
