Rotor Rust
I'm suspecting it is a botched brake job. My rotors are rusting in a thin strip on the flat side of the rotor at the edge, it seems the brakes are not using the full rotor. Is it possible that the brake pads are too small or do I need a brake adjustment. If it is a brake adjustment, could I do it myself or would I have to take it in?
Thanx in advance for any insights. |
RE: Rotor Rust
Pretty normal. No pads go all the way to the edge, that"s only one of the reasons to turn the rotos w/new pads. Perhaps you just hadn"t noticed it before.

The non-contact area at the edge should be very small, like 1/16" on mine - just enough to leave a horribly sharp edge. If it's uneven or much wider than 1/16" or so you may have a pad installed incorrectly.
I've seen the thickness of paint on the back of the pads cause an uneven wear pattern, but that goes away as the pad surface wears it's not a good way to start. |
