Replaced instrument cluster: odometer issue

I just recently had to replace the instrument cluster on my 2008 Mazda 3, with a used unit that was installed at my local Mazda dealership's service dept. As I drove home, after installation, I noticed that the odometer showed mileage that was 15,000 more than the actual mileage on my vehicle. I was under the impression that the new (used) cluster would either "sync" with the car's computer and show the actual mileage, or that it would be calibrated somehow to show actual mileage. Upon speaking with the service rep., I was told that I should have been given some sort of sticker and that they can mail it to me. This does not sound very "official" nor does it seem that it would be very convincing to a potential buyer that would see an odometer reading that is higher than advertised.

Does anyone have any experience in this area? Is this the norm?

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any help/info would be greatly appreciated!

Completely normal. There is no "syncing" or "calibration". The instrument cluster is the only module that monitors & records mileage.

There are specialists than can modify your replacement cluster to read your actual mileage.

it's not something Mazda can do.

Thank you for the feedback--it's appreciated!!

Just received my sticker, but it only shows the mileage at which my cluster was replaced--NO mention of the mileage of the replacement cluster. How does this help me convince a potential buyer (or insurance co. or another Mazda service dept. doing warranty work) that the true mileage is actually LESS than the odometer reads??

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
