AEM is cool and all but what you are really paying for is the name they say K&N is the way to go but really, you can get a cheap $70 cai and get the same results (considering that they are both in same good condition) and sometimes AEM or whoever you bought your cai from will probably give you the wrong one upon shipment, but anyway if you cai is setup right then it should not be throwing codes in the first place.

AEM is cool and all but what you are really paying for is the name
...and when you pay for the name youre paying for a quality product made by a company thats been doing what they do for a long time.

bill1986: here is a link concerning water sitting in the u-bend of a cold air intake, which is angled upwards slightly...though, the problem in this case is with an Injen cai, and the plaintiff wanted to switch to AEM for the better design, where the piping does not tilt upward to allow it to hold in water..

http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=44612.0

and the problem is with the sedan, not the hatchback, because of how the headlight is designed...water gets in and drips down on top of the filter. but all you need is a splash shield above the filter and youll be okay.

as long as the CAI is installed right, it should never throw a CEL code at you, you just have to make sure the MAF sensor is connected and is screwed down enough so as to not let air escape or come in thru the flange it sits on. yes when you buy AEM or K&N you are buying a name, but also a reputation of a quality product that will last. Personally i will go custom with my CAI, not a kit, and it can be done for less than $100. and by going custom you can make your own design to flow air at better rate with less bends in the pipe, the straighter the pipe, the more air can flow thru getting to the engine. of the three big k&n Injen or AEM, I would say that AEM and K&N have a better design as it has less bends than the Injen one
