Paranoid new owner
Hi everyone! I bought it! I bought a Mazda 3 i touring with an automatic transmission in strata blue with black interior!! But now comes a whole new set of worries I didn't have with my old beat up 94 Corolla. My biggest fear is that it'll get stolen or vandalized. Has there been a big problem with these cars getting stolen or vandalized?!
Any tips for me on how NOT to be totally paranoid and looking out my window every 30 mins?! I know this is probably silly, but it's my first new car EVER! It's a big deal for me and, not to mention, it's a really nice car!!! lol Any calming tips and support is much appreciated!
Yours truly,
CommMajor101

My man...I am the same exact way, except I did that with my previous car, a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. First thing is, you will get dings and scratches on the car no matter what. Sucks, but it will happen. Next is, hey, if it does get stolen we have car insurance for that! Most banks where you finance a vehicle require 100% theft and full coverage etc. etc. so if your car does get stolen you wont stop paying on it. I always check on mine, I just did my laundry at school and I kept looking at the window at it (and also admiring it, lol). Thing is, Mazda's dont get stolen all that much from what I hear. Its more civics, camrys. But I could be wrong. Welcome to the Mazda family!
CommMajor101, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you may want to take a look at these:
Warning, if you look at these threads, your life will change for the worse.
If you want to not worry about your new car then do not read these!
Unfortunately they are true and this is a known problem. Mazda is just nowadmitting it.

i dont usually worry about my mazda too much... altho i do constantly look at it out the window where ever i am...
the only thing im ever worried about is parking it in shady places... i.e., parking garages, or anywhere in Toronto....

I know what you mean. I use to be the same but with my Ducati. When I travel with the car or bike I just take common sense precautions and hope for the best. Look if a good thief wants it they'll get it.
First of all, what Hooper posted above about easy break ins happening is total BS as far as I can tell. I have googled, and never been able to find anything other than postings on message boards and blogs. Think about it, if it was true ...wouldn't a reputablenews outlet pick it up, verify it, and report it?
Second, a good wash and wax will help protect your vehicle. Years ago, someone poured finger nail polish all over my hood, and the fact it was well-waxed allowed the vehicle to completely escape paint damage.
I do watch wear I park, like other posters have mentioned, with a new car this matters more. If your going to go to a bad area of town, let a friend drive.

i garage my 6. always.
and heres a good parking tip:
park a bit far from everyone else. but DONT park TOO far. its just a target for some guy to go "hey look someone loves their car, lets **** it up"
what i do is. i usually find the guy with his Bently or BMW parked alone, and park 2-3 spots from it.
this way. if a car gets vandalizes. its not the mAzda, its the Bentley
