My impending headlight mods
I am too, Remi. I did it myself for years and agree whole-heartedly. But I have to admit that as I get older, have more responsibilty and less energy, I am getting lazier. More power to ya' if you can carry it off.
Looks good so far.
after clear coating my spare lenses I really wasn't satisfied with the results. I ended up getting a set of retrofit clear lenses from www.theretrofitsource.com. Matt's a great guy there and had my lenses to me in two days. The light install is on Saturday so I'll be sure to post up some pictures.
Okay the install is done now. We ran in to a few snags... the low beam halo on the passenger side really didn't want to stay on the projector shroud. Not sure why it was so disagreeable, but it took a lot of convincing.
Just to recap I:
-Installed my custom switch with flip flop relay
-Installed angel eyes
-Installed 35w 4,500k HIDs
-Replaced the stock frosted lens with a clear lens from theretrofitsource
-Color-modded the projector by spacing the lens from the housing (spacer included with the clear lens)
-Removed tab from projector shield, and painted shield black to reduce glare
Everything looks fantastic post-install. The cutoff is cleaned up substantially and there's a nice blue across the cutoff with almost a little rainbow effect. Sadly I don't have any pictures during the install as our camera made friendly with some water the other day. I did manage to get it working today though. I'll have output/cutoff shots of the HIDs after it gets dark. I was a little freaked out when I went out this afternoon and the driver's side low beam halo was super super dim.... almost looked like it wasn't lighting up. I pulled the light and checked all the wiring and everything else was working... I also took the opportunity to clean up some of the not-so-nice wiring behind the headlight. After being on for a few minutes it started working again though.

Thanks.
My work schedule is a little weird. We work rotating day/night twelve hour shifts... generally we have 3-4 shifts (Fri-Sun, Mon-Thurs, etc.) then 2-3 days off, then swap to the other (day or night). Out of 21 days I work 14 and then I have 7 days off in a row before starting it all again. So yes I do have some down time and when I'm off during the day and the baby's at daycare I'm able to do stuff.
Well after that one time of getting the driver's low beam halo to work it never really came on again, though it did flicker with gusto a few times. I double checked it with both ballasts and still nothing, so it looks like I had a dud. Pulled the light apart and removed the ring today and just shipped it off for replacement.
