I believe the lug pattern is 5x114.3 and the offset, from factory is like 70...but you'd be ok with a 7.5 in. wide rim, as long as your offset isn't any bigger than 45. if you go with an 8 in. rim you'd want your offset higher. I am currently looking into buying 18 in. rims, 18x7.5 5x114.3 with an offset of 45,..and every dealer i talk to says i'm good to go.

Lug pattern is definitely 5x114.3. Any stock Mazda rim out there will fit on the 3. I have the Mazda6 17" wheels on my 3i. Offset is 60mm.

Mazda3 - 17x6.5"
Mazda6 - 17x7"
RX-8 - 18x8"

No...The way bolt patterns work is like this. A 5x114.3 pattern means 5 lugs, with opposite lugs being 114.3mm apart. (If you numbered the lugs 1,2,3,4,5.....The spacing between 1,3 or 2,4, or 3,5, etc would be 114.3mm apart.)

The 5x100 wheels wouldn't fit.
