What's a "56"?
I've never seen a CV boot that's "crimped on",
The boots are held on with metal bands/crimps, but they are easy to fit/replace.
$1000 is complete overkill for a boot, maybe that's for a complete CV joint, even at that pricce i'm surprised, most likely a complete new axle???

Hi thanks you for the reply. 56 refers to the mid year of vehicle registration for the uk 2006 model. Have you worked on mazda 3 cv boots in the past yourself? In particular that particular year. Yes I have seen youtube videos and index stand what your saying about the boots being steel band clipped.

The garage said they had taken both sides of the cv boot with the axel and and found the boot crimped on.

And was give the option to invest in the manufactures replacement units plus labour.

Are you in the UK area?
