Mazda 3 2015 tyres

I own a Mazda 3 2015 and need to get new summertyres for the next season.

Right now its factory Michelin Pilot Sport 3 with 215/45/18 measurments.

I was wondering if I could get 225 or even 235 width tyres with the same other measurments and still be able to drive normally without any problems.

These are the specs for the rims:

Diameter: 18 inch
Width: 7.0 inch
Bolt Pattern: 5 X 114.3mm
Offset: 50mm
Center Bore: 67.1mm

By changing the width of the tire from 215 to either 225 or 235, you will also increase the diameter of the tire; this in turn will induce speedometer and odometer error (both will under-report). If you want to go to a wider tire you will need to go with a 235/40 R18 to keep your tires to the same diameter as the OEM rubber. Keep in mid though, a 235/40 R18 tire has a minimum rim width size of 8.0", and if I recall correctly, the OEM wheels for the 2015 Mazda3 is either 7.0" or 7.5", meaning you'll need to buy new wheels as well.

ya that aprox. 2 mph difference is going to screw every thing up ... :rolleyes: lets see your MPG hard math calculating vs the ECU reports about .50 (+/-1mpg) difference. Next, depending how you sit, your seating adjustments and your line of site to the speedometer you may or may not see it line up exatly on a line indicator for that 2 mph difference? :rolleyes:

Now what it will not effect for your model MAZDA, well going to a different size tire as what you are considering to change with will not change any engine and transmission operations controlled by the ECU.

The only thing if you are mail ordering tires is knowing exactly if they will fit with no clearance problems. Unless you first measure your specification for the chassis height no one can really assure you that none recommended tire size upgrades will clear with no issues. This is because of normal wear parts on your personal MAZDA may not be within the chassis specification.

I would suggest before you commit to call and talk to a tire retailer that may have some history referring selling a different size out side recommendation for your MAZDA?

You can run a 225/45/18 on the factory 7.0" width rim. Speedo will be out by 1.29 MPH

What does "speed will be out by 1.29 mph" mean?

It means your speedometer will register low as the diameter of a 225/45 R18 tire is larger than that of a 215/45 R18. In your shoes I'd opt for a 235/40 R18; same diameter as your stock tires and only 20mm wider.

Good thing I never asked a forum about what I did. LOL my wheel choice limited what I could get and I compromised. The compromise has my speed-o off by 1 mph. Big Fricken Deal. I used my Ultra Gauge to adjust the roll out difference so when I want accurate MPH display I look at that or the GPS connected to a couple of devices in my MAZDA. I can live with 1 mile off the dash speed-o and I think the OP of this thread should the decision be to get the tire that will change the MPH 1-2 off will also live with it with no CONCERNING consequences. LOL

If you click on the link I provided, it says @ 62 MPH the 225/45/18 tyre would put your speedo out by 1.29mph
