Infotainment locked up on way to dealer

Default Infotainment locked up on way to dealer
Went in for first oil change today and system locked up on the way, so I was able to show dealer. They upgraded me to V29. Got me to thinking - since the USB ports and SD ports were locked up, how did they load the update? Does this mean the procedure they go through to start the update unlocks the ports? I saw the procedure listed somewhere.

Most likely thru the Data Link Connector - connector for the IDS/MMDS diagnostic laptop.
