HELP! electrical problem
 

i'm a big fan of these and other mazda 3 forums, and i tried to install some interior lights in my 2005 mazda3 S as per this tutorial: http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=19609.0

I opened up the map lights and got to all the wires up there, but I think I blew a fuse or short circuited something because now my car is all messed up! The radio won't turn on, the speedometer doesn't work, the automatic doors don't work, the map lights won't turn on, etc.

And to top it off, I'm leaving to go to college on Wednesday, and I have to resolve this ASAP because I'm taking my m3 with me!
Please give me all the advice you can... Hopefully someone else has had this problem and there is an easy solution. I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow.

in the walkthrough, does anyone know where I can purchase the metal plates that are being lit up? I don't know what you would call them, but they look awesome! I was thinking about getting the Mazda 3 pedals and the object seen in the walkthrough. Anyone know of an online store that sells Mazda 3 merchandise like that?

You probably just blew a fuse. Check your fuse box. It is on the passenger side. Refer to the owners manual. It should tell you what each fuse is for and the amperage of the fuse. You can get the fuses from any auto parts store. Sometimes if you buy the variety pack you get a fuse tester with it. Good Luck!!!

First off disconnect what you hooked up. I don't mean you have to remove any/all of the wiring you put in, but just disconnect the wiring from the map lights. Once you've done that then look in the fuse box (like zoomzoom said the owner's manual will say which fuse you need to replace. If you're not sure then just start pulling fuses one by one until you find the blown one. Second..... what are you running off of this? If it's some LEDs then there shouldn't be a problem, but if you're running a bunch of neons then that might explain your problem as they're going to pull too much power. Once you've made sure your fuses are good and everything works then recheck all of your wiring connections to make sure everything's plugged into the right place.

If the car doesn't work properly after replacing any burnt out fuses then remove everything you've added and take it to the dealer NOT mentioning that you were adding lights to the car.

esloyer, I'm not really sure where to find the door sills, but I'm sure if you search on the mazda3forum then you'll find somewhere as I know it's been discussed there. As for the pedals, which ones were you looking at? I'd check out the ones from www.xenonexpert.com if you haven't seen them.

Just helped a friend install them the other day. They were a bit of a PITA, but look absolutely awesome. I can give you my thoughts on that if you wish.

The only fuse you should have been able to blow with wires in the map light area is the 15 Amp "ROOM" fuse. This fuse is located in the fuse box under the hood just to the outside of the battery. See first pic below. With cover removed the "ROOM" fuse is the one in the lower left corner marked with orange in the second pic below.
