i dotn know why u would, the rx-7 was notorious for poor reliability the 3 is bulletproof. If u realy need more performance u should have gone with the rx-8

You might as well turbo the 3 and upgrade the tranny....would be WAY!!!cheaper.

You would have to change the 3 to RWD, to make it worth anything. Custom fab the mounts, crossmembers, you would have to make a drivetrain tunnel. And although you could run the driveshaft through the exhaust tunnel...you would then have to make room for the exhaust.

well if you want more power you gotta come up with the $$$. Its not cheap. And you really don't need a upgraded tranny to run a turbo. just saying you could upgrade the tranny to push higher whp...comparing a rotaryswap to boosting.

i'd agree, there would be no benefit to dropping any other engine in your car over turbo'ing what you have. cost would be close to the same, and generally a lot more straightforward.

i'm also interested as to how you hit 165whp? is it just a guess or have you dyno'd, as i have yet to see a 3 crack the 160whp mark on the dyno.

An engine swap for this car is not worth going through the trouble with to make it half way decent, fyi id take a JDM 20b over the rx-8 motor anyday, like MrTea said no stock 3 is cracking the 160 mark to the wheels, its feels like even less than that until you hit VVT in 2nd gear. Anyway your not gonna find a turbo kit under for any 1st gen car under 4g's and thats all you need for the only company that makes a kit for this car thats worth buying.
