Does the Mazda3 skyactiv have to use synthetic oil?

Must I use synthetic in my 2012 Mazda3 i Touring 4-door sedan? I can't find a owners manual online. I have not taken possession of my car yet to get the manual. What intervals are used between oil changes?.....Thanks...Rich

  • You can find an Owner's Manual on the Mazda USA web site.
  • Per the Manual, Mazda recommends 0W-20 oil for the SkyActiv-G engine.
  • Oil in the 0W-20 grade can be had in both Semi-Synthetic and Synthetic formulations.

I noticed the recommendation, but it lists 5-30W also. Someone also mentioned that the car ships with the 5-30W....Rich

If you carefully read the Owner's Manual, the only oil recommended for the U.S.A. and Canada is 0W-20. The reference for 5W-30 is for the turbocharged 2.3 liter motor in the MazdaSpeed3.
