Did I kill it???

Don't hate me everyone. But my 2004 3 had been notifying for a while that it needed oil. After putting in two bottles 3 weeks ago, it needed more (it was overdue for an oil change). Well, driving on 95 north, the motor started making a loud noise, and then the motor blew. Is it dead? Or should I try to see if it is fixable?

Is the motor dead? Sounds like it.

Is the car itself dead? No, it can be resurrected with a new (or rebuilt or used) motor.

Were I in your shoes I'd probably buy a used motor from a wrecked car and either put it in myself or pay someone to do the work for me.

Let us know how you make out.

sounds like motor is toast. w/o oil ....... no lubrication in the engines moving parts...oh the thought of it.... yuk sorry , used motor is the way to go

Sounds like the motor was gone before it "blew".

So friends, I have looked on-line and found some places that have used, or rebuilt motors. I will conduct a search in the junkyards of Boston and surrounding areas. Any of you have experience with a used or rebuilt motor? How did it perform?

As with most things in life, it depends.

I've put remanufactured motors, rebuilt motors, and used motors in cars and as a general rule, performance is pretty much unchanged from what it was prior to the previous motor going Tango Uniform. FWIW, I prefer to do the rebuild myself as I then get to pick and choose the machining and the parts myself, and depending upon the engine (and the availability of a little extra money), you can bump the performance up a bit.
