Changine from manual to atuomatic. is it possible?
 

Hi i have an 06 5 speed mazda 3. and i am going to give it to my sister but need to change it to an automatic becuase she doesen't know how to drivea stick...now wat all would i need to do. i know i need a automatic transmission of course but wat else would i have to do? please help me out.

just tell her to suck it up and learn how to drive it.

changing a tranny in a car is NOT an easy job.

you'll need the tranny, a new ECU, possibly a new mounting frame for the tranny, and then minor stuff like a new center console.

trust me, alot of ppl of thought of doing auto to manual swaps, and it's just not worth it. either tell ur sis to learn how to drive it, or trade it in for a mazda3 with Auto.

Two choices:

1) Sell your current manual vehcicle, and buy an auto.

2) Magic wand (and if you have one, don't waste it in on this!).

^ Seconded. If you trade your 06 in now, you'll still get high value for it...I don't think 08's are in the dealerships yet.

Or you could drive your 3 down here and trade it for my automatic sedan...I bet it'd be a whole lot safer for your sister to drive 'cause it's slower.. :D :D

LMAO i like that. but what they said. its incredibly hard to do. not to mention if you pay a shop to do it it could easily run you somewhere im estimating 5-7K plusss the whole process would take like 3 weeks maybe more.. just go trade it in for an automatic... or better yet teach her how to drive the 5spd. i learned on my car and now for me its sooo easy.

It would be cheaper and easier to teach her how to drive stick.. then she'll know how.
My wife learned on an auto. Now she won'town anything BUT a stick.

Since They never made a MS3 with an automatic, it is not a plug and play option, there is not a stock Mazda computer that can control the engine and tell the transmission when to shift.
