Cabin Filter
I'm sure it helps, I just wouldn't want the expense, time and effort once a year to have to replace the thing. And around here in Texas, especially during the summer months it can get so dry (re: dusty) that it would no doubt need changing more often than usual. I've heard that they are a PITA to change. Why would they design something like that then make it difficult and/or time consuming to get to?
Plus the HVAC in mine is not the greatest ('04-'05. Weak A/C in particular) and that would add further resistance to the system.
BTW... as to why they would make it a PITA to replace the cabin filter? Probably to make it more of an incentive for the consumer to take it to the dealer for replacement.
Just in case anyone is interested i just listed this product on my site for 26.99 with free shipping. Figured if you guys were looking for it, a lot of people are.

After the Hyundai dealer tried to sell my wife a new cabin air filter for her Santa Fe for $75, I found the Purolator Breathe Easy Cabin Air Filter at the local Advance Auto Parts for about $15.
A quick check of the Purolator website application guide shows one for the 2008 Mazda 3, filter #C15873.
