Breaking in the Engine

RE: Breaking in the Engine
To me, taking it easy on an engine is keeping it at 4000rpm or lower ... maybe even 3500 or lower. I would keep it under 3500rpm for 1500 miles (not just 600).Whatever the manual says, bear in mind they care about making your engine last only until the warranty period expires - because after that, whatever happens, it is YOUR dime, not theirs.
Yes, don't gun the engine - no hard accelerating, no jack rabbit starts. No extended highway driving. The revs need to move up and down regularly. This is good for both the engine AND the transmission during the 'it's new' period.
Get an oil change somewhere between 600 and 1,000 miles - experts advise doing this to remove "new engine" gunk sooner rather than later.
