Ball joint boot torn - advice?
So I am replacing the clutch in my 2012 3i Skyactive, and of course with my two left hands and all ten thumbs I managed to rip the lower control arm ball joint boot.
The auto stores seem to sell mostly full control arm assemblies with the ball joint, and some sell the ball joint separately but the photo - where it's even posted on the web site - does not look at all like the ball joint whose boot I just ripped open. Nobody seems to sell a replacement boot meant to fit a Mazda 3. I can't imagine being the only person to make this mistake, so I would be surprised to find out that there is no aftermarket replacement boot that would fit this ball joint. There are plenty ball joint boots available on the market, but they usually have no indication what car they are meant for or what size they are. I am hoping someone can recommend both a reputable store and a way to select a replacement boot, or better yet point to a product they used in a similar situation. If not, I will have sadly trudge off to AutoZone to buy a new control arm, muttering obscenities about having to pay $140 for 15 lbs. of steel because of $4 worth of rubber. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated |
