Auto tentioner!

Hey guys i have a 2004 Mazda 3 and on the way home today noticed that my batterie light was on, followed by my engine light, noticing that my theromostate wasn't working. I shut the vehicle off and popped the hood to find that my fluid was boiling. The auto tentioner has snapped off there for cutting the belt. Has anyone experienced this problem before?

Your the first that I know of, and I know ppl that have nearly 100K on their 3's, and drive in New Jersey!!
Perhaps just a fluke? There always seems to be one....

Hey ya...this car hasn't even ticked 60,000kmso kinda unbleievable ...I am taking it to Mazda, because it should still be 100% under warranty.

That would definitely be covered under warranty. I had a tensioner pulley fail at around 60K on a GMC truck I had. Your car heated up because that belt also spins your water pump which circulates your coolant in the engine. Get a new belt and idler pulley/arm and you should be fine.

HAH!!! That's for YOU to figure out!!
Nah, if you can drive 100k miles in NJ and not be killed by one thing or another, you're above average.
OK, now to be serious: I was talking about a guy I know on the Mz3forums (Superjudge) that is nearing the 100K mark and complains a lot about his car, but has not had this particular issue... yet. (Well, I didn't promise to be COMPLETELY serious, did I?) :D
