Hi guys, new to this forum, well actually new to any forum tbh.
I am a young female looking to buy a cheap car that will just get me a foot in the door to get my learners and learn how to drive (no experience). I’ve been searching for months and months and I also live in a small town that has barely any cars for sale/no access to get to the city to buy something decent atm. I have over 10k towards a car but I don’t want to spend that as my first car to learn in. A friend of mine is selling her mums mazda 3 skyactiv 2012 model, I’ll give details below ;

cosmetic appearance: used / scratches/ dents etc.
kms: 330k.
Service log: good service history, with recent service being missed, 10k kms over due.
3months rego left.
engine light is on, she told me she took it to mechanic a year ago, he couldn’t find anything wrong, turned the engine light off and it eventually came back on and she said she’s been advised it’s just a sensor issue. She told me it just revs over sometimes.
New front tyres, back tyres have around 50% tred left.
she’s asking 1500 ono

(I know near to nothing about cars)
I had a mechanic friend take a look and test drive with me, he said it runs really smooth and nice but he’s concerned about engine light and high kms. As I said I just want something that will hopefully last me long enough to get that experience in and feel more confident driving plus only driving it around a small town.

please give me your absolute honest opinion if I should buy it or pass as I need to have a answer by this weekend. Thanks so much in advanced.

 

Depending on the cause of the engine light, sounds like a bargin.
