Angry 40-60mph

Anyone have some good ideas to fix the insanely sluggish 40-60 acceleration? I have an auto-tragic and my god, 2nd gear from 40-60 is sllloooowww 0-40 fine, 60-to anywhere else decent pep but this is my only beef from this car is that 40-60 acceleration. Its like my car has no power mid rpm from like 3000-5000 range. Any ideas besides boosting.. because we all know boosting solves most acceleration problems lol.

Mid RPM is 3-5k?
Put your right foot in, take your right foot out, put your right foot in, and shake it all about.

ok, smarta$$ if you want to get technical about it. lets see the rev limiter is about 7100 which I'm going to go by as the the absolute max you can shift the car at and since no car (running) idles at 0 rpms mine, however, idles ~750. So, lets do some basic stats and math 7100+750/2=3925. That folks would be mid point between idle and blowing your car up. So you take 3925/2=1962.50 rpms. So mid range would be 3925-1962.50 and 3925+1962.50 so mid range (excluding trq curve) would be 1962.50 and 5887.50. That is simply by taking the whole rpm rage cutting it in half and then cutting it in half again making fourths and using the two middle pieces that connect the mid-point.

Now, If you want to take in the torque curve, we can do that to..for the 2.3 L and I'm assuming its the same for the 2.0 L it is 4500 rpms before you flat line. So doing the same math as before you have zero torque, while standing still (unless you are brake torque) so idle point which as noted above is ~750. So, 750+4500/2=2625. Divide that by two again and you get 1312.5 So adding and subtracting from the midpoint of your torque curve would be. 1312.50 and 3937.50, this would be technically the mid rpm range for your torque curve.

However we run into another problem...you don't shift all the way down to 750 while flooring it from 40-60. So doing some tests of my own, on my 04 2.0 auto manual, using awesome (sarcastic) Manual mode I find that starting in second gear at 40mph i'm running 2900-3000 rpm's...flooring it i can shift from 2nd to 3rd at 60 at 5100 rpm's.

This here folks shows that 40-60mph is about 3k-5k range...I'll just call it close to mid range for the full RPM band because I'm pretty close to my limits on "mid-range" about ~-1000 on my lower and ~+1000 on my upper. So i refute my statement that mid range is 3k-5k (Rather 1962-5887) but I'll call it close enough.

Have you considered trading your car in on one with a manual transmission? I have a 2.0 liter model with a 5-Speed and there is no such flat spot in acceleration. FWIW, I think I heard a story from someone that converted his slushbox Mazda3 over to a manual transmission. Personally I'm thinking that's a lot of work, buy hey, you never know.

Funny story about transmissions actually, I probably could of converted it when i had the chance. Oh about 90,000 miles when coasting i heard a loud whining noise after checking a few things nothing seemed wrong. No cel, no AT light, etc. sounded like a medium pitched rolling of the tongue, Louder when i sped up, lower when i slowed down..Took it to Mazda, and I quote word for word, "Congratulations sir, your front differential is dust!" All my fluids/ lubercants had just been replaced in that car, Tranny flush, coolant flush. So they decided to put a brand new transmission in my car. $4100 dollars later. Shiny brand new transmission which i like because now i have 1500 mi on my tranny about 91,000 on the engine lol. Lucky for me I had to full 10/100,000 warranty and so now that brand new $4100 transmission cost me $100
