2009 defect
 

hey guys
i have an 09 mazda 3 touring

i was wondering if any of you came across this problem.

Whenever i use the turn signal, i seem to inadverdantly activate the highbeam light. And it happens very often. Has anyone else come across this freak occurance and have you been able to do anything to correct it.

Not really a defect, just 1 bad thing about having a Multi-function switch, and it has happened to me, and on more than 1 vehicle also.
I have just learned to put up or down pressure on the stalk and it does not happen all that much.

I concur with Siber Express, it isn't really a defect as much as it is poor ergonomics. I'm thinking that if the turn signal stalk was a half of an inch or so closer to the plane that the steering wheel turns in, the occasional activation of the high-beams wouldn't happen any where near so often. FWIW, I've owned a number of German cars with the same push away to activate the brights, pull toward to "flash" the brights, and I've never inadvertently turned them on before I bought the Mazda.

Happens on many vehicles. Often when you see a car's turn signal flash once, then the headlights change or vice versa, it's cause someone goofed on their selection.

ive done it and a truck blasted his horn at me for it.. its something that will happen. and will happen. how often does it happen?

Meh. It's happened to me a few times. There isn't very much resistance against the force of pushing it away. My Mustang's brights and bright flashing worked the same exact way, but I never accidentally turned on the brights in this fashion. Then again, there was more resistance, thus less chance of accidentally pushing it back. On the Mazda it barely takes any strength to move it.
