Default 2007 mazda 3 gas cap

I got a new 2007 madza 3 i touring recently. It's great! I have a question for other owners about the gas cap. Once you undo the gas cap a station to fill up, do you have something to hang the gas cap (with its plastic strap) onto like a hook on the gas door that flips open, or do you just have to let it hang against the car exterior? It seems odd that I have nothing to hook it to while filling up. Just wondering if something is missing on my car or if I'll need to create a hook since I don't particularly like the cap dangling. Let me know you have or do in this situation.

This is a common question, but despite that lots of people still don't know how to do it. Early model 3's had a long squigly cord that let you just hang the cap over the door, but they replaced that with the shorter straight plastic one.

I'm at work and can't upload any pictures, but I can take some tomorrow. In the mean time here's how to do it.

-Open the fuel door
-unscrew the gas cap
-Look at the open fuel door and you'll see a little piece of metal pointing towards the car near the middle of the door
-situate the cap so that the inside is pointed towards the front of the car (you might have to rotate it so the tether isn't pulling it the wrong way)
-push the car against that piece of metal so that it goes between the tether grommet, and the cap itself

The cap will stay in place there, and none of it is touching a painted surface. I actually showed a salesman at the dealer how to do that the other day and told him to show it to everyone he sells a 3 to.
