REVs Vehicle History Check: Not stolen, written off or involved in an accident.
120km/Hr HWay 2&1/2Hr return trip of 250km, Watched OBDBII PIDs, put a bottle of Fuel Injector Cleaner in tank at start of trip & completed a few “Full Op Temperature WOT Acceleration Runs” as part of the trip.
Doing a “Compression Test” with spark plugs removed on a MAZDA2 requires removal of Inlet Air Duct, ECU etc, not something a seller is going to let you do in their Driveway….So all you can do is a "synthetic relative one" with the Fuel Injection Disabled watching the starter motor current draw, but that does not tell you "per cylinder psi", & it sets an OBDII Code & Check Engine Light.
So the Work begins to “Change all Fluids etc” & gathering “Benchmark OBDII PIDs” for a car you know little about as you work to discover if the car is a keeper or if it has hidden fundamental problems.

5W40 Full Synth GTL Oil A3/B4 & MAZDA B6Y1-14-302A Filter
(ie not the Ryco Z436 Filter, trying a different oil filter to see if that makes a difference re “Staccato ticking on first start of day from cold when placed into R or D & engine is loaded during off the line from standstill up an incline eg out driveway up road camber”. Also back to 5W40 for Summer months given the 45 Deg Ambient Temps expected)
Checked engine sump gasket for seepage

MAF, IAT & Throttle Body were cleaned at 171,191km. (Could have also done the MAP but its different to the ones on the Mazda6 or 3 in that its on the end of a rubber hose not in the PCV gunge path & also the Idle Speed Control Valve/Short Runner Adjustment Stepper Motor but didn’t) I just started with the MAF, IAT & Throttle Body.
The Mazda2 is not turbo charged & I’m running a 5W40 Full Synth GTL < 7% NOACK Oil, with no noticeable oil usage over 5,000km, the OBDII PIDs look good & the hot idle is stable at 650RPM. 190,000km is a nominal 19,000km since cleaning MAF, IAT & Throttle Body, OBDII PIDs & performance suggest MAF, IAT & Throttle Body are all still clean.
Not dusty or sandy here, just hot with multiple days at 45 Deg C in summer.
Air Filter is standard MAZDA (nominal 60,00km change intervals in the Owners Guide) it was replaced at 160,000km, I'll probably do next replacement 200,000km depending on what it looks like ie 40,000km replacement intervals
Cabin Filter was replaced 160,000km & was brushed then reverse blown out at 180,000km, next replacement due nominally at 200,000km. (nominal 40,00km change intervals in the Owners Guide, I don’t really buy into the activated charcoal debate suggest its primarily a particulate/pollen removal filter & it stops gunge build up on the dc fan motor speed control block in corollas, I don’t get mould growth on them at my operational location)
