Squeaking when changing gear 😡
Hi Everyone,
I bought a Mazda 2 2008 ts2 back in October 2022, it had ~60K miles on the clock. Shortly after I bought it the car started to produce a squeaking noise.
I took it back to the dealer but as soon as I turned up the car stopped squeaking- so no luck getting them to investigate.
Since this time the car has seemed to be mechanically sound and I am close to hitting ~90K miles.
The noise only occurs when the car judders changing in the low gears (1+2). Even if I shift perfectly you can still hear a faint squeak. There is one squeak when disengaging the clutch and a stronger one when engaging the clutch after putting the car in the correct gear. The sound is certainly coming from the outside of the car and is in perfect syncronisation with the cars slight judder as we manual drivers all experience. The squeak also occurs upon starting the engine. There is a faint squeak depending on temperature. Both the squeaks are identical so I recon stem from the same part.
I understand this is a common fault for Mazda 2's which no one can really give a solid fix to, which surprises me considering the car has been around for almost 17 years.
Its a shame as I'm quite fond of the car but the squeek really puts me off keeping it in the long run.
Any help is much appreciated.
Ben.

Welcome to the forum
So that first thing you should know it is not a common problem unless you count every car ever manufactured that was not meticulously taken cars of.
The down side is the description is really vague so unless you can at least narrow down the location which will generally need another person in the car to help with that it could be almost anything drivetrain running gear or chassis related..
But if your Mazda has a 30-90 day used car warranty you should at least make whom you purchased it aware of the concern and noise you hear.

Hi!
Thanks for getting back to me. The noise is coming from the front of the car and I'm 95% certain from the engine bay.
Does this narrow down any possibilities?
At the miles on the odometer and not seeing what the undercarriage looks like to know the service condition prior to and since you purchased the MAZDA was and has been through?
