Mazda2 starting problems
Good morning all.
I hope you are all well. This is my first post.
Over the last few weeks, my Mazda2 2011 petrol 1.3 model has not started first time every time as it usually does. Yesterday, it didn't start at all despite several attempts. The battery was replaced only two years ago and it's done about 60k on the clock. The oil was changed last year and the spark plugs haven't been changed since the car was bought not sure if that is relevant but just giving some background info on the car.
We charged the battery yesterday for a short while using my Dad's old portable analogue battery charger then it started and has done a few times since then on the first turn of the key.
I am a complete car novice so I asked my local mechanic who told me it's a battery issue and to replace it. However, I have had differing opinions (could it be the
alernator or starter motor perhaps?). Anyone had a similar problem before please?
Is there any other problem it could be please? Just worried about it as my sister uses it for the school run.
Really appreciate any help and guidance in advance.
Have a lovely day all.
Faisal

Ok so this goes to the normal check list from the first thing to do:
First and always first regarding any electrical issue that has more than a simple DTC is to confirm by way of a LOAD TEST the batteries state of health.
Then check all the battery cable for continuity both at the battery terminals and especially the ground at the body or chassis and lastly the Starter.
Please do not assume because of the age of the battery or you think the battery is ok!
If the battery passes, then:
Directly connecting to the OBDII diagnostic connector (no blue tooth) look for and note any and all DTC.
Then move on to the I/M Monitors and see their state of readiness or fault?
You can then either report back or if you do not have this capability that you should have your Mazda checked out at either a service shop that employes an automotive technician or a dealer.

Thanks for your reply, appreciate it. Will take your advice onboard ensure the battery is connected as advised.
I have no idea what an OBD, DTC or IM mean. I could research this myself and learn something in the process perhaps.
Thanks again, much appreciated 👍🏽 😌

If you look under the driver side dash you will see a connector like the one pictured.
To get the informatio9n your Mazda computer you need a "SCAN TOOL" to plug into that connector.
Then follow my suggestion what to look for.
