Glow Plug Indicator
Hi,
I have a 2015 Mazda 2 SKYACTIV-D 1.5
My question is, I have never noticed the Glow plug light indicator on my dashboard. Ever since I bought the car, no glow plug light has ever illuminated. The car starts fine, from the moment I hit the brake pedal and push the start button, it starts right up.
Do glow plugs work at certain temperatures? Maybe areas that are very cold? My area, the temperature is usually between 16 C - 30 C.
Has anyone noticed the glow light on their car?

I don't think it relates to cold or hot

i know this is an an old thread but I will add my understanding from the 2 fiesta diesels I have owned . I think Mazda 2 uses same diesel engine as fiesta. The light is not directly linked to the glowplugs. It is not a simple case of light on glowplugs are on and light off glowplugs are off.
The light comes on if the car considers that the temperature is so low that the car needs time for the glowplugs to heat the combustion chambers before you attempt to start. (living in the south of England I might see my glowplug light maybe only twice a year). When the light goes out it means it now considers it OK to start the engine. Most modern diesels can start at a pretty low temperature without needing glowplugs. However, just because the light isn't on, it does not mean the glowplugs are not on. On a cold start. the glowplugs usually are on even though they are not essential and you don't see the light telling you to wait. They still help and mean that cold idling is smoother and more eco friendly. That's my understanding of it.
