Default Front end noise

Afternoon Folks,

I have a 2011 Mazda 2 Takuya and it has an unusual noise coming front end when driving. It sounds vaguely like 'ticking' or a light scuffing noise. Its not related to engine (still there in neutral) and increases and decreases commensurate with speed. More pronounced when the wheels are straight but still detectable on full lock, left and right. I have tried driving the car with brakes lightly applied but the noise is still there. I've had a brief look at the inner/outer CV joints and the gaiters are intact with no grease on the outside. Any thoughts or pointers please?

Additionally, is the clutch and steering column supposed to be that notchy...?

Thanks in anticipation

I know this may seem unhelpful, but this issue could be caused by so many things. If you can't pinpoint the issue yourself, it's probably best to let someone have a look at it.

Things that spring to mind are:
Wheel bearing
Bad tyre
Bad CV joint
Brake heat shield
Something loose coming into contact with moving parts e.g., wheel liner or wiring.
Brake discs / drums
Brake shoes / pads

No, very useful thanks. Had an hour spare so whipped the wheel and calliper off. Straighten the head shield, made sure the guide pins moved correctly and bolted it back up. Irritating noise gone!

any thoughts on the notchy steering and clutch pedal please? From the brief research it appears they are known faults?

thanks,

JJTJ17.

BTW, are you from Cornwall?

Steering notch requires re-greasing of the intermediate shaft.

Grim Reaper, thanks for the reply.

This model has tilt only steering, no extension capability. So can you grease just the universal joints?

Grateful if you have a link you send please?

TIA

You should still have the bellow intermediate shaft. The splines that slide in & out of the two sections need greasing, not the universals.
