Default Belt or Chain?

Need to put my 2008 2 TS 1.3 (85BHP) through it's first service/MOT since I bought it. Does this model have a timing belt or chain?

Just about to hit 80K and unforunately don't have any history showing if the belt/water pump was ever done (if it has one!).

Jumping on the thread....does the chain require replacement after 10 years or is it for the lifetime of the car?....I've had a search and can't find an answer
Thanks

Should imagine is the same as other chain driven engines where they are meant to last the lifetime of the car but in reality it depends on the maintenance history of the car. If its been used and abused and not service regularly its likely to need changing.... or it could just be a part failure (tensioners)
The early polo/skoda 1.2 tsi had a horrible time of dodgy tensioners. Some needing new chain as early as 30,000 miles. Just depends i guess - service history and well.... luck

Thanks Lockstock, I'm potentially just about to buy a 10 year old Mazda 2 with fairly low mileage and thinking it might be safe to get the chain replaced fairly soon if the seller doesn't have up to date service info.
Assuming the engine has been thrashed and poorly maintained, would there be any signs the chain was on its way out and needs replacing?
And if the worst happens and the chain does snap, are we talking a very expensive repair (head/engine replacement) or is the 2009 1.4 85bhp petrol engine designed as a non-interference engine so the valves and pistons wont touch?

If the chain is quiet and doesn't rattle then I would leave well alone and not even look at getting it replaced. They seem pretty solid engines so I wouldn't be concerned. They don't have a history of bad timing chains as far as I am aware.
I'm not sure If they have a non interference engine I'm afraid.

I know its late but just to add to this. Mine is a 2008 1.3 model so almost 12 years old. Done 62k and only had a part service history when I bought it. I always keep on top of maintainence and the engine is sweet and always has been. Never had any mechanical faults with the engine or timing chain.
