Reverse gear not engaging properly. 2004 Tribute

So, recently i have realised that when i put my van in reverse, i have to feather the throttle until it engages. Too much throttle and it slams into place. It's kind of like riding a clutch. Thank God i know how to drive manual as well. lol.
What is causing that? Is it repairable?

Sounds like the transmission is dying

"Feathering"??? Sounds like you are killing it, ALL auto's should be allowed to fully engage drive or reverse at idle before applying any throttle.

Keep dropping the clutch on a manual and you'll soon need a new clutch, you seem to be doing the same on an auto - and the early Tribute trans isn't the strongest to start with.
