Default Problems using brush guards?

I was given a near new brush guard for a Triute and before I put this on our vehicle, I was hoping to get some advice.
I'm aware there are some mechanics in the forum, maybe you would know.
Are there any complications in using the chassis mounted brush (grill) guards on these smaller, car based, SUVs? I have heard something about them throwing off the airbag sensors in the event of a collision. I don't see many small SUVs (Mazda, as well as other makes) with this type of accessory......I didn't know if there was an underlying reson for it.
Thanks in advance for any comments,
E.
