Default 2008 tribute v6 cd4e transmission problems

i have a 2008 tribute with a v6 fwd and a cd4e transmission. First problem after driving probably 3 miles it seamed like it forgot where the gears where. Going in and out of gear, the rpms goung up some and 2 warning lughts came on, the wrench and the check engine. After getting home the code reader gave the code, P0741. The transmission fluid smelled burnt. I replaced the fluid and the solenoid pack because it only registered 6 ohms when i tested it. After replacing i adjusted the neutral safety switch and for a minute it ran ok, untul it got warm or got above around 25 mph rhen rhe same problem was back. What do i do now?

Fit a rebuilt one or one from a breakers as your choice, there isn't a lot you can do externally.

Burnt fluid is never a good sign - assume the level is correct and newish fluid?

That code is fairly specific to the TCC, if it should be on but it is detected failed (by the mismatch in rpms the trans should see with it engaged), then you get the P0741.

Yep - as per my first answer you are probably looking at a replacement or rebuilt trans. I'd be taking it to a specialist for comment and confirmation but the burnt fluid and the symptoms not responding to the solenoid pack change seem pretty clear.

These are not a real strong trans from what I have read I replaced mine at easter with a second hand unit it was all up supplied and fitted $2000 as I cannot do that sort of work anymore a rebuilt was going to cost over $3500 and it is more or about the same as the car is worth, I was very disappointed to discover that they have had gearbox problems after buying ours 3 years ago now know why they are cheaper than comparable sized cars around here
