I'm wondering if that'll be an issue...
Yes, on my 2002 the trim piece you're referring to comes off by removing the two 7mm bolts located above the steering column. First step though is to turn the key on, pull down the gear shift lever all the way, lower the tilt wheel and then disconnect the negative battery cable. Once the screws are removed the trim piece will pull off (only snap clips hold it in place). You will have to disconnect several connectors but that's not to difficult; you will then have access to the stock radio.

My odometer light is out to , but does that effect the other indicators like the engine light, or oil light? or is just the odometer.
Could it be the fuse?

A blown fuse would kill all of the lights. Its just the odometer bulb that needs replacing along with any other bulb that is blown out.

Thanks Clockman, Mazda charges crazy prices, $5 bulb $100 labor, i might as well leave it if it doesn't effect any other signals.

Default Odometer light

I have a 2001 Tribute and the light was out, Mazda wanted to charge me $5 for the bulb and $100 for labour. I went to another mechanic and all he told me to do was bang really hard on the dash, so thats what I did and the light went on, who knew?? He said the filiments must be a little loose but thats all I did and it's been on this whole time
