Might need clutch 01 Mazda Tribute

Hey Guys, new to forum. Just bought for cheap a Mazda Tribute DX 4WD L4-2.0L from my neighbor. When I say cheap I mean it has a problem. the problem is that it is very hard to put into reverse and makes a grinding sound when it does. I am going to condemn the clutch and try to install a new one myself unless anyone else has any other ideas what it may be. Do you think it is possible to install in a driveway with proper tools. Thanks for any kind of advice. Forward gears seeem ok.

I've never done a clutch on a Tribute, but based upon your description it sounds very much like the vehicle is in desperate need of a new clutch. :)
