Default Loud clicking when press brake. Drive and Neutral light up..

I just bought a 2002 Mazda with a V6 3.0. I had a 2001 Mazda that just got totaled out. I got it replaced with this one. My 2001 did not do this. When you press the brake in gear or not it makes a loud clicking sound behind the steering wheel. Also when you put it into drive it lights up the drive all the way but also most of the neutral . What is causeing this and is it an easy fix? Please let me know as this really gets to me and hard to tell if its in drive or not...

Sounds like someone has been in your steering column. There is a shifter lockout that works when you depress the brakes, remove the column cover and check everything.
