Liftgate/ Trunk Window Lock.
 

Hello again folks,

I have a new problem with my 01 Tribute. The Lock for the window on the liftgate stopped working. Is this a common problem?
I have power locks and even when I try to lock with the key, it still remains open. So right now Im using bungie cords to hold it shut from the inside.

So do I need a new lock? Perhaps the power doors fuse is out even though the rest of the power locks still works?

Sounds like if you are having to use bungee cords to hold it shut from the inside then you are having a latching problem. It is not uncommon for the rear hatch glass latch to get pushed towards the front of vehicle and glass striker will not be able to engage latch anymore. The latch is adjustable to bring it back rearward and allow latching. Is this what has happened or will glass actually latch closed but just not lock?

Liftgate problem. '01Tribute.The liftgate strut, not the window strut, is loose in the door. How do I access it from inside the door where I need to tighten to secure? Babyhuey? Are you out there?

The ball stud that the liftgate strut would attach to is threaded onto a weld nut attached to the body sheet metal on both ends. If the ball stud has just worked loose then just use a 13mm open end wrench to tighten the ball stud. You can do this with the strut still attached.

The nut that's welded internally has broken off inside. It is still attached. I can still lift the hatch, it just wables around. i'll continue to use it that way untill it breaks or falls off inside the door. When (and if) that happens, I plan to drill about a half inch hole in the door and work through the hole to secure another nut. tonyp
