Default Great gas mileage

I know gas mileage is a sore spot with several Tribute owners, so I thought it might be worth noting that I have able to achieve really good mileage several times with the Tribute I bought last month.

First, it is a 2004 3.0 V6 AWD...I drive mostly highway miles, even in my routine driving, so that is probably why my mpg is so high. My first couple of fill ups recorded about 21 mpg, which was what I was expecting. However, with more straight, longer distance highway driving with the last two tankfuls, I have recorded 25.2 and, just today, 26.8 mpg. I knew something was up when the trip odometer was well past 200 miles and the gas gauge hadn't reached the halfway mark yet.

If I am doing something special, I am not sure what it is...I am not a lightfoot...the transmission seems to shift gears right around 3000 rpm...I keep it locked up in 4th gear on the highway and allow as little hunting as possible, and let off the gas if the TC unlocks. There are few hills in my area and, as mentioned, I have been recording more cruising highway mileage than normal. Perhaps these are the only reasons why my mileage is so high.

Just thought I would share. And brag. [8D]
