Coolant temp

I put the scanner on my cold engine, was sitting overnight, yesterday and it read 26c. After driving for 30 mins it would not go over 62c. I checked it on a cold engine this morning and it read 12c. Me thinks sensor is rs so i ordered a new one. Am i right to assume a cold engine should read zero. It has a new thermostat and water pump installed.

It will read the ambient temperature. If it's 12'c overnight it would probably read 12'c

Thanks for that. The previous morning it was 7c externally and the scanner showed 26c. I am really doing my head in over this car. All of the things i have replaced have been faulty to some degree. I am running out of things to replace.
