Brick wall at 4k rpm??

Afternoon gents,

Long time reader, first time poster. My wife's '01 Tribute V6 just started showing some odd behavior. It started bucking a bit while driving, rpm's all over the place then a CEL. She brought it home immediatly and i broke out my code reader and only thing it showed was an old code for a #5 cylinder misfire. CEL was out. Starting it up in the driveway and giving it some gas i seem to hit a brick wall at 4k rpm. It bangs off of it like a rev limiter. Even flooring it 4k is all we get. Taking it for a ride again doesn't seem as bad as she suggests but i do feel some odd engine "noises" and feedback.

Dealer is closed until after xmas so i'm basically SOL. Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking perhaps TPS or MAS? I've not done much work on this motor so my troubleshooting is limited for it.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Happy Holidays!

Not sure about the noises but my 01 v6 cuts out when you rev it up in park also.,

most cars have a low rev limit when in park.
ive been in some ford cars that have a rev limit at 3,000 in park.

My B2000 pickup does this when the catalytic converter is stopped up. Warning: I'm no mechanic!
