2005 Tribute I 4cyl 2wd auto trans, possible torque conv failure???

Hi all,

Could use some help. I bought my neice a 2006 Tribute with some issues that need to be fixed. Main issue is it seems as if the torque converter is not engaging the transmission. When auto trans is shifted between all the gears (R,N,D,2,1) the indicator goes to that position just fine. however vehicle does not move at all. exception! when vehicle is cold it will go into gear and move but that lasts only for a few minutes. Has anyone had any experience with this?

title said 2005 (my mistake) its a 2006

Start it up, get it hot, check the trans fluid. What colour is it? Is the level on the dipstick right? I would be taking it to a transmission shop for diagnostic before spending any money on parts.

color is light red. its at the full line on the dipstick. i'm going to do a transmission pressure test this weekend. i'm just trying to determine if it is the tq converter or trans.
