2001 Tribute 2WD High RPM Idling

I am currently looking at purchasing my first car, a 2001 Mazda Tribute. I had it checked by a local mechanic, however upon returning to the dealer I put the vehicle into park and it began to rev the engine at very high rpm's (3000+ and it continued climbing). The issue only seems to happen in park and neutral. I checked the carfax report and apparently it still has an open recall for Recall ID # 94758 - VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CABLES open. The Mazda dealer in town said they'd perform this recall fix. However, after leaving the dealer I called my local mechanic back and he recommended checking the IAC valve as well. I have not experienced acceleration surges while driving, only high rpm's while idling in neutral and park. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Thanks,
Andrew

Well unless you are going to get the IAC valve changed by the dealer just get the recall done first and see if it resolves it, if not your mechanic can change the IAC...
