2001 Mazda Tribute misfire
2001 Mazda Tribute - 6 cycl
Ok... Looks like many of us are having the same problems with our Tributes and other Mazdas. Mine started misfiring in December. Unfortunately I cannot get to a Mazda dealership because the nearest one is 4 hrs away and I don't think it would make it. Here is what I know: Everytime I get the code read, it indicates a misfire on one ofthe front bank cylinders. Apparently a regular shop cannot get anymore details than that from the code reading because Mazda keeps their code details quite secretive so you have to take your vehicle to them for service. That doesn't do me much good. I have had misfires registering on all front bank cylinders and I have replaced the ignition coils and spark plugs on all three. The check engine light has since come on again; although, has yet to misfire, but I believe that is only a matter of time. I am going to try to change the DPFE sensor and see if that fixes it. Beyond that, I have no idea. Maybe if we all come together and put "what we know" on this thread, then we can figure this out. Or has someone already got to the root of this issue? I would love some help in figuring this out. Thanks, Mike |

Well I changed that sensor and it was good for a couple of days, but it started misfiring really bad this morning. It is humid and damp out, which seems to correlate with the misfires in some cases.
Please HELP!!!! |
RE: 2001 Mazda Tribute misfire
My 2003 V6 dose the same thing. Thing is did is spray ignition sealer everywhere there were wire connections. That seemed to help stop the moisture from causing misfires. I also replaced the #4 COP and all the plugs today. Started missing bad yesterday. So I pulled the code showed a #4 misfire. I have read that if you start getting misfires it can screw up the ECU. All seems good for now. I just hit 60k. Remember engine vibration can cause the plastic coating to rub off wires check them carefully with a flashlight.

Try cleaning the throttle body with carb cleaner, a fine sticky glaze can build up on the interior messing with all the sensors. After cleaning it will run rough for short time, until the computer can relearn the proper mixes. Ed

RE: 2001 Mazda Tribute misfire
Maybe a timing issue rather than misfire due to plugs, wires etc...

Find a Ford dealership, because you are running all Ford from front to back. Engine and Trans.

I agree. Go to your Ford dealership and have them work on your "Escape".
