2001 Mazda Tribute (Headlights Just Went Out)
Hello Everyone, I am new to this forum.
Live in North Carolina, USA. I have a 2001 Mazda Tribute. While my son was driving it at night, the headlights just went out. The high beams still work, but the normal lights do not. Is this one of the recalls on this vehicle? Or is it simply a mechanical failure and what could it be? Sincerely, BigHal |
Replace both bulbs (99% probability) clean the battery post clamps and hope the alternator is not going out.

Can both bulbs go out at the exact same time ?
I just recently had my battery replaced. Son said they went out when he hit the brights. THANK YOU hixx HAL |
Yea, it's common as dirt. The voltage regulators sometimes put out too much and blow both bulbs. Obviously it is in the realm of possibility that a poor ground/wiring/switch issue exists but it would be uncommon if the high beams work. Just remove a bulb and look at it closely to see if the filliment is broken.

Bulbs are Good to Go ! bought one and plugged it in, no low beam. high beam only. after reading some other posts, could it be the headlight switch? Thank You

Probably. You need a test light. Light green with blue tracer is the low beam power wire coming out of the switch. You can probably take that switch apart and clean the contacts to fix it if so.
