Hello,
I have a 2010 Tribute which I purchased used a while back. At the rear bumper driver side it has this 10 pin male connector that I would really like to know what is it for. Connector has a removable female cap. I am attaching some pictures.
Car has a trailer hitch installed and I was thinking this must be a harness for the trailer lights, however it does not look like any of the standard connectors. Car does not have backup sensors or camera installed. Could somebody shed some light on this for me, what is this for and if it is connector for the trailer lights, is there a harness kit that will convert it to a standard type of connector used on most utility trailers.
Thank you! Connector with the cap on Connector with the cap on connector cap removed
Yep I’d expect that to be the factory connector for the factory tow wiring. Either splice your own in or buy the harness from a Ford dealer, or possibly a boneyard.
Thank you for a reply. I went to Mazda and Ford dealerships today and they could not recognize the plug and told me this is a non oem part. Then I went to a hitch specialist and he told me this could be a connector for optional backup sensors or it is a non oem trailer harness, but nobody is 100% sure or has seen it before. With hazard lights on he checked voltage on connector pins and there was none. He offered to wire his own trailer harness. Now I am even more puzzled if this plug can at all be used for the trailer lights. If anyone has seen it or has a wiring diagram for it, kindly let me know. Much appreciated. Thanks.
